§ 16-5. Truck routes.

  • (a)

    In this section "thru traffic" means traffic originating without the city and with a destination without the city, as distinguished from "local traffic" which means traffic either originating or having a destination within the city.

    (b)

    It is unlawful for any person to operate a tractor, agricultural implement, truck other than a pick-up of ¾ ton capacity, as thru traffic upon any street except those which have been designated and sign-posted as truck routes.

    (c)

    Subsection (b) does not apply to:

    (1)

    Trucks having a destination or origin on a street other than a truck route for the conduct of business provided that such operator shall take the shortest possible route to or from the truck route.

    (2)

    Emergency vehicles.

    (3)

    Trucks used or operated by the city, public utilities, or contractors while engaged in the repair, maintenance, or construction of streets or utilities.

    (4)

    Trucks on an established detour.
